In 1980, by amending its charter, the City of Montreal obtained the power to create SIDACs (sociétés d’initiative et de développement des artères commerciales), non-profit organizations aiding the development of commercial arteries.
On December 17th 1984, the SIDAC of La promenade Fleury was officially created, following the requests of the merchants and professionals of Fleury Street East.
It was the result of a long history of trades and businesses that started at the beginning of the 20th century with the urbanization of the City of Ahuntsic, now one of the boroughs of Montreal.
In 1997, the organization took its actual name of SDC La Promenade Fleury.
As time went by and thanks to its location in the heart of Ahuntsic, Fleury Street East quickly became the place to be in the area for trades; it was where the merchants concentrated their businesses.
